Asta Pubblica features hand-made local designs crafted from either re/used, re/cycled, local or natural materials. This hybrid space is a mixture of gallery, retail, public art windows and office/meeting space. The name translates from Italian to ‘Public Auction’, which goes hand in hand with the series of exhibitions ‘Private Party / Public Sale’ featuring new designs and product concepts. Packaging is minimal and great care is taken to reduce energy consumption the shop generates through minimal printed materials, displays developed from re/used materials and efficient lighting. It’s guilt free shopping for practical and beautiful things that will make you feel good about consuming. You might even pick up a prototype from one of Australia’s next big designers.

It all started with old pianola scrolls hanging in the windows of an empty shop front in Fitzroy North, Victoria Australia. As the locals wandered past and stopped to read the scrolls of old paper with their lyrics and paper cut holes in beautiful patterns, an idea started to form. What if we put things in the windows that people actually wanted to buy!
Pondering how much unsustainable crap is being produced and then shipped around and around the globe, I decided that this little shop was going to be a place for hand made, local designs and art made from either re-used, recycled, natural or locally produced materials. Sustainable things for sale, Public Sale.
